Default 10 Lures

Frank....I need you and the rest of the members' help..........

In a day and age now where we have an endless amount of plastic, rubber, wood metal etc. etc. lure imitations....I really would like to know the top 10 "needed" for any surf situation at any time. Not so much the 10 most popular but the 10 most needed type of lures that a surfcaster needs to carry in their bag at all times. If possible, some examples of any specific manufacturer that you feel may be a better "fish catcher" than others. I understand that geography may play an important role here and if it matters, i frequent the beaches of Southern NJ.

As always, i thank you and others in advance.

This is a great question, so let's see what I can come up with:
Creek Chub Giant pikie minnow
Popper -- something from Rhode Island Popper
Rebel, floater, 5 1/2 inch. Any Finland type variation.
Rebel, floater, Wind Cheater
Bucktail jig, No-Alibi Smilin Bill, largest size
Some sort of rubber eel -- Gag's whip it should work (it would have to)
Crippled Herring -- 4 or 5 ounce
Small red-gill for teaser application
Junior Atom (floater)
Any traditional plate swimmer that casts well

I think he meant the brand name "No Alibi" smiling bills... Pretty sure bucktails are one of Franks favorites.

No reason. The Smilin Bill is listed .

This is one of those issues where you always come away with the feeling you forgot something.

I like your list Frank, but I would add a Hopkins Shorty, and a Castmaster to complement the metal side of things.

Here are the 10 lures I use 95% of the time, in no particular order:

1. 6" mackerel bomber (middle hook removed)
2. 6" olive bomber (middle hook removed)
3. 5 inch black/white rebel (middle hook removed)
4. 7 inch black/white rebel
5. 4.5" redgill, any color
6. 9 inch storm shad, any color (rear hook removed)
7. 9 inch tsunami shad, any color (rear hook removed)
8. 7 inch tsunami shad, any color
9. 6 inch storm shad, any color
10. 4 oz white bucktail jig

If I did any fishing during the day I might add a popper and deadly dick.I need to diversify.

Kastmaster is a worthy listee. I thought I had metal covered with the Crippled Herring. Ever since that Jersey transplant on the Canal showed the CH to me I've had the hots for it.

Nice list but I leave the rear hooks on the 9" Tsunami, ive caught some large fish on just that rear hook.

I've found that the lures get destroyed much more quickly if you leave the back hook on.

I watch close and think about everyones list, I think my pal Gad fishes similar territory and conditions that I do so...
Before we all settle down to watch the sunday news.... perhaps you can throw some sizes on to your list, favorite color and comment on the hook removal aspect that some of the guys listed.

Al listed a mackeral colored lure... I got one I never use (my dads)!
Never use it cause I figured we/I don't see mackeral ( haven't in a while) but then again, I never see a red headed white fish, or a parrot colored fish so there goes that logic
