Fifties Count -- 2009
As with previous years, let's put up the names and weights of the 50s taken from Cape May north, boat or surf, so we can count them for the year. Please include some identifiable markers so that we don't list the same ones twice.
 Example: F.Daignault, February 30, 49-15, Guzzles B&T

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
How about another count for those of us south of the Mason-Dixon line? If I catch a 50 this year, I want the whole world to know about it! Rob

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
Rob, you can report it here. We just won't count it in the northern count. Still, you might win a trip to Somalia hotel, three hours in a one star hotel to fish for Nile perch.

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
Okay, that's fine. I get a little excited here right before fishing season. I think if I lived close to the shore, I wouldn't be able to keep a job! Rob

Okay. In my day real surfcasters didn't have jobs. Some of them today have pet bridge abuttments. Blazing saddles: Where the fifties at?

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
Frank, this may be the first of the season, a guy caught a 52lber on Friday just south of the Tappan Zee bridge in the Hudson.
Hopefully she wasn't still full of eggs.

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
Frank, Al, (et al).........
I know this doesn't really count, as it was count south of the Mason/Dixon Line.
(Speaking of which, this report & photo compliments of MD's Department of Natural Resources.):
"Scott Bruther checked in this whopping 55-1/2?, 55lb striped bass at JJ?s Tackle Shop that he caught near Buoy 77. "
However, given that youz guys have (both) caught a school of once-in-a-lifetime fish (50+), what is your perception of a 55 pounder measuring 55 inches? Isn't that normally reserved for 60+?
Although, to be honest, it does sort of look like some of the "spring blues" we used to catch "back in the day", at Cape Hatteras; blues with the heads of an eighteen, and the body of an eight....

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
i'm not there and didn't weigh it but it doesn't look like a fifty. The reason why I don't want to count the southern fish is that it would create a mix of data. We can't have a 40 year count going and change how we count. I have no problem with the south, especially the women.

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
From riptidebaitandtackle.com, Brigantine, NJ:"Frank H had a 50 incher 52 pound catch and release."
Don't know if C and R counts but the owner of the shop seems fairly reliable from all accounts.
