Default Penn 155 Beachmaster repair question

So I never took apart a conventional reel. Until today. It was a gift and I don?t fish conventional but I had nothing better to do so I figured give it a shot. Got it all apart, cleaned, re-greased, back together, (the anti-reverse was tricky), fine, looks good. Problem is if I back off on the drag too far the drive gear seems to disengage and the spool no turny. What did I do wrong? The reel was brand new, original box, never fished.
