From social media on 5/20:

Kenny from Ray's Bait in Warwick, RI. 50" long, 52.25 pounds. Supposedly caught on a bunker/pogie from a boat in Narragansett Bay.

Thanks for putting that up. First blush I thought it a little early for Narragansett Bay but I have been kind of screwed up what with turkey hunting 29 consecutive mornings with 3:30 AM wake ups. Lost all connection with the calendar/seasonal timing. Still, that is an early monster. Keep reporting, buoys and curls.

A coupel to add:
Christian Issley caught a 53.72-pound bass last Friday night in the Boston area.
Peter Silvia got a 50.3 in upper Narragansett Bay last Thursday.
Michael Musacchio caught a 60.5 off Fire Island, NY on Monday, I believe. There was also a 58 weighed-in from that area earlier in the week, but I have not seen the pictures yet.

I have a few more that have come my way but not confirmed enough to add to the list yet.

I was thinking that about Boston, too. The migration is odd this year. There are large bass off Long Island, in Rhode Island and up through the Canal to Boston, but inside Long Island Sound there is a dead zone from about Norwalk to Watch Hill. It's almost like the Hudson fish that some of us theorize take a turn out of the Hudson and shoot through the East River either forgot to put on their turn signal or have yet to head north.

It may not be a dead zone. The very nature of what is being done here is kind of arbitrary, dependent upon any number of dice rolls -- reporting, returning, break offs. The whole notion of reporting such unusual sized bass is fraught with risk of exaggeration. Ever notice how few 49 pounders are reported?

Betty and Nick's B&T Seaside park reported Chris Lagrossa 53 Pound 1 ounce Bass yesterday. Pic's are up on facebook with the scale shots.

Thanks for that. Also, watch for evidence of mention if it is a surf caught fish. We keep that part of the count as well. Most years ten percent of the total is surf.

Rivers End reported from a couple days ago that they weighed in "an honest 57 poundah" and some 40s...in the vicinity of the Ct. River

There seem to be roughly the same number of fifties as most years. Only this season we are not getting any facts which define a particular catch. When that happens there is no protection from reporting the same fish twice, or even three times. Results are skewed as a consequence. Little is known. I also think there is less interest in "fifties". All we can do is our best at maintaining the count.

I know there have been some out of Montauk. Chancey Sportfishing has a few this spring and Bloodline Sportfishing has a couple as well. FB reports with Pictures, weights and anglers names.

"There have been some; there are supposed to be" I can't put that on my toast in the morning. Who caught what and where? Its late July and our count is poorly validated, punctuated with a lot of hearsay. How can I report to our readers all this baseless speculation (BS)?.

I can just see my Fifties report in the Fisherman: By Mister Smarty. we heard about a lot of fifty plus. 75 rumored and five weighed, The five weighed were determined by the French Canadian baby weighing system where you take the baby on the scale, write it down. Weight the person holding the baby, sans baby, then subtract the person's weight from the total and you get the baby weight. Just do it with a striped bass instead of a baby.
