Default Sort of noob - bluefish-proof leader for stripers?

I?m a Chicagoan so I don?t get to surf fish very often - about 1 week every other year. For this year?s trip I?m replenishing my tackle box with pencil poppers, bombers, Hopkins, etc. I always seem to lose a ton of gear to toothy blues. Not sure if this is anecdotal but I?ve never caught a striper when using a wire leader. Any suggestions on making my own fluorocarbon leaders or other alternatives? Sorry - no doubt a noob question but I don?t get as much time in the surf to experiment much. Thanks in advance!

Unless your in a blitz generally 80lb leader will hold up. Just check it for nicks after every fish.
As for fluorocarbon IMO it's not needed for Bass or Blues.
