I thought the same when I first saw it. But Rob posted a couple of other pics. I think in the first one he has it hoisted on his shoulder, which is hidden behind the fish. I hope this settles the issue, and that he doesn't mind me posting this pic.

HellO Frank,

I just want to step in and mention that as per a story on another forum, he was with a known "name" surfcaster, and general cognoscenti here on the island is that the fish is totally legit. It has the lead in a tournament (Hence the gang-sign he is showing in the first photo) that is necesarry to enter any fish. I dont think it went 63 on the scale however, but was 60 or close.

The fish is legit.

The KICKER is that a couple days after his Rig (Van Staal, custom stik, plug bag e.t.c.) was stolen from outside his place!

God help if he finds the guy on the beach, i am sure he would take back much more than his posessions...

JC

Good, I'm glad you put this up to straighten it out. I was embarrassed and offended earlier. Whatever it weighed, it now counts as a fifty. More important, our collective conscience here is assuaged. I envy that kid. And I appreciate your efforts. Thanks.

Fortunately and unfortunately, every bit of the story is true about this fish. It was caught on a plug and weighed in on our club digital scale at 63lbs 4oz five minutes after being landed. The next morning when the shops opened, it came in at 59.75lbs. The second part of the story is also true. Someone thought it would be nice to come to my house and steal over $2K worth fishing gear that same week. I am completely cleaned out.

For anyone doubting that I am holding the fish up, I can assure you that technique is everything when lifting heavy things. There are no sticks involved!

Frank, is your grand daughter cute?

Thanks for the congratulations.

-Rob

The first pic just looked funny. Congrats on the huge fish.

Mike Coppola weighed in a 55.75 at Paulie's B&T last week from the surf at Montauk

Did you get Brian Carroll's 52.5-pounder weighed in at Barnegat Light B&T?

Rob sorry if you were offended you, great catch. I still can't figure how you held that up with one hand. The second picture shows the true size of the bass.

You've held luggage that way, Al. You hoist something up to your shoulder, and then let your arm and shoulder carry the weight. I bet you could hold up 100 lbs. that way.

The goofy thing about the first picture is that the guy's elbow is behind the bass, so it looks like he's holding it up with his arm outstretched, like it's a 14-inch runt. But imagine walking through the airport with a duffle bag on your shoulder, and I'll think you'll see how he's supporting the weight of the fish (which is a tremendous catch, by the way).

I'm impressed with Rob's catch as well. I also think that a good picture contributes to our value here as a web-site. I think the important lesson in this situation is that people have become very suspitious for good reason. And that calls for a higher level of presentation, greater caution.

Rob, I have two grand-daughters, high teens, and one low twenties. They are Daignault girls and they would kill you. It would take the undertaker a week to get the smile off your face.

Frank-

That's your picture there in the dictionary next to "incorrigible".

Charley Soares in his report for the Fisherman just gave us another 60 pounder caught by a person on a boat at Cutty. The next month should be big.

Smoky, my last supervisor, a school principal, used to say, "I got 1250 kids and Frank." Is that kind of along the lines you was thinkin'?

It's going to be rough surf around here in NJ for the next week. Not too many Cows will be landed...
