Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
A guy near me caught a 53-inch striper that topped out at 54 lbs. on the Boga Grip. The fish was released, as she had not spawned yet. Though it's released, and it wasn't reported to a tackle shop or a newspaper, I can vouch that this guy is very reliable -- he's a retired guy who fishes the beach all the time, and doesn't need a big fish to make him feel good about himself. Plus there were witnesses -- and all agreed that the fish was over fifty.
This was in Northern Cape May County, by the way, caught on clam (you'll love this, Frank) in the middle of the day.

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
If you want to count them, Shore Catch (a member here and reliable) reported two 50's and one under at 48 1/2 caught from boats a couple days ago. They provided pics, and having met with many of them, and fished with a couple others, I would tend to believe them. Add or not. But remember, they are boat fish... From what they mentioned and the video, the were caught off Bay Head in Jersey, way outside of what is castable from the beach.

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
61lbs,58lbs and 51lbs. caught may 22,2009 block island - Good Lord!
I have the pic but can't post it yet (for publication somewhere else)
Two of the fish are no-doubters, but one guy is holding his so you can't see the belly so it's hard to tell.
Don't ask me what these maroons plan to do with 170 pounds of striper

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
We are up to 16 and running slightly ahead of other recent years for this date. Too early to speculate why.

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
Today's Asbury Park press reports a 54 pounder caught by Steve Saniewski of Toms River with bunker off Deal, NJ (must've been a boat fisherman).
A boat called the Moondancer caught a 51 pounder and was reported to the Reel Seat in Brielle, NJ.

Re: Fifties Count -- 2009
I've been following the posting of some shops and I've noticed a lot of high 40's - that's good to see...it used to be you did not hear of too many 47-49 pound fish.
