Never buy in whole hog to anything. Spread your investments across a cross section of choices -- safe CDs, Muny Bonds, Utilities, annuities, stocks, Mutual Funds some safe, some aggressive. Watch for ways to avoid taxes. For instance, four percent return untaxed is better than 5 percent taxed. Diversify!

By Monday next it is time to buy stock because the market hit a low this last Friday. Pick quality stock and do not go overboard.

On the other hand, there is a lot of luck involved in investing. For instance, we bought two utilities, years ago to have some safe stuff that paid a dividend and it climbs and climbs making more money in increased value than it ever did with its 4% dividend. Wall street goes down the crapper but our two power companies in Michigan are like that bunny with the symbols. I would like to tell you that I did research and made this wise choice out of some special skill. It was really more like stopping at some spot along the beach and whacking a 50-pounder. ..... first cast!

With the market the way it has been the last month Joyce and I could have gone lion hunting in Africa with the money we lost.

You are not kidding! Lots going on between large domestic energy companies. Check out what Haliburton is up to, also Schlumberger is making some moves too.

If you believe America is going down the toilet, then buy gold and silver. If you think America will be great again, buy now or hold on to what you have invested and ride it out. Of course beware of the Should Have Could Have Club.

Yes, Rich, can't disagree with anything you say. What is it that Harry Truman used to say? "If you can't catch them on the beach, go in a boat." Right ?

When the current administration came in I expected the worst (economically speaking) so I went big on gold. I did not count on the printing of $2.5 trillion cash and the effect of that "new money" on the market. In the real world, gold "should have" gone up and the dollar "should have" sunk. The wildcard factor was that other world economy's took the cue and debased their own currencies on pace with ours so it was a big shell game that all politicians should be hung for!
What I mean by a "shell game" is that the buying power of our dollar today is on par with about 1/2 of what it was in 2008 and yet the government "says" that inflation is not occurring! (and they have the stats to prove it!)
I somehow entered the "Should Have/Would Have Club".........JC

Jason are you buying notes or the actual gold? I was checking out Monex and some of their offerings. I don't think I am interested in owning notes but would rather own the asset physically.

There is very little posted here which I agree with. Trouble is that I too have no clue and don't know what I'm talking about. Being a Mister Smarty is a way of saying that I am not smart. BTW, the markets are all up today. I may be able to afford an extra porter on my lion hunt.

Owned physically the commodity can be stolen. You should also have a safe.

I have a very old, very reliable investing strategy: I put everything on "Don't Pass."

We would have been murdered this quarter if it wasn't for the power company utilities -- CMS Energy and Detroit Edison. My first broker ever, who was a ding-dong working for EF Hutton sold us those two 35 years ago they have doubled in value and paid a dividend ever since. No risk.
