Remember there are no taxes in munies or muny funds. Those freaking CDs pay 2 % and you have to pay taxes on that 2%. There are billions in Muny loans out there and there have been a few defaults, Porto Rico and Washington Power Authority aka WHOOPS to name widely known failures. But I think that stuff is insured.

Our most recent money maker has been McDonalds. Decent dividend and huge increase in value. Should sell and take the gains but the stock keeps rising

Whoh, might we get our December losses back? Its been a good week. Rises in the market are likely not individual investors because they are probably kind of shy after the December burn. Probably, institutional investors that are inching up the market. I know that I am a little scared to buy in after getting hammered in December.

Right now I am looking for dividends.

This past 10 days, and certainly yesterday, we got a lot of our money back. Just a few grand more and we will be even. Of course dividends never stop, except for one, Anheuser-Bush. They stopped paying dividends so we sold their stock. Man did our broker ever screw us with that one. Paid a commission to buy it, lost value, lost the dividend, then paid a commission to sell it. That broker is toast and I will phase out our relationship. Stick with Fidelity.

I hope no one has Boeing stock... it hadn't been hit as hard as I thought it was, but signs are ominous for a collapse

These are scary times. Even McDonalds went down this week.

We have been shifting safe money in CDs to Muny Funds that pay mid 4%/5% no taxes state or Federal. I hate taxes!

Many-oh-man, are we ever getting killed on Wall St this week. At least the dividend checks keep coming in. Hope it comes back. The fricken Chinease thing is said to be the cause.

The Boston Globe, aka Pravda, says:

World Market downturn -- cause -Trump
Domestic terrorism/killing -- cause - Trump
Break up of Mexican families -- cause - Trump
Government acrimony in Washington -- cause - Trump

Hang on for the ride, but this kind of turndown puts a huge cataract in my retirement vision.

Another hot stock is UPS which is flying high like McDonalds. I know I bitch but we have had some good ones.

Not that I am qualified to give advice but we split, half and half, risky stock with safe investments. Say you got $20 Gs: put 10 into high recommended stock like Mickey D's and put the other 10 Gs in safe like a MUNY fund paying 4 1/2% no taxes or even a Utility. Utils are safe and grow like weeds. CDs are a joke. They pay 2% which is taxed.

Getting killed again. But only Mickey D's and UPS are holding up. Utilities are also safe. They pay lousy dividends but grow like weeds. (oops, did I say weed?) Well, you know what I mean.

I have to research Muni's that's for sure. I've got a lot of company stock due to the 401K, and it's done well simply because of the discount I get through auto-investing, but after I leave the company, I'll need to diversify all this. BTW, I have a bunch of other diversified investments, but just saying w.r.t the company stock, which is a lopsided investment right now.

MUNY funds actually pay better than most munies. But the funds have a 2.5% up front load so the first year the 4.8 is lowered by that load. Most funds don't charge anything for getting out. In our case, at our age, we have to take a distribution on IRAs. So then we put the distribution into a tax free fund. We like Putnam Municipal Opportunities (PMO) or Colonial Tax Managed Trust with Threadneedle. There could be others. (must be).

Funny how the market responds to everything Trump says. He farts and the market flounders; he sneezes and you get your money back. MUNIES are not so fidgety.

What a month! We lost a fortune and have been getting it back this week.

My wife has been bitching about "paper money". She is always asking, "when are we going to see any of this money?" So this week when we bought a car, I made a phone call to our broker and the next day full payment for the car was in our account. She couldn't believe it but that sure did shut her up.
