Fisher always look embarrassed when you surprise them. I have had fisher walk right up to me. Jump suddenly and they soil themselves.

Even when young enough to do so, we never used tree stands. Years ago, when I had a regular gig with a regional outdoor magazine, I was assigned to look into hunting accidents. So I called a state guy whose specialty was hunting accidents and he admonished not to worry about getting shot; worry about falling out of tree stands which is the top most dangerous thing in hunting, even ahead of duck hunters drowning. What we do is take a ground blind where we can see an opening or higher bluff that looks down on a known run.

That was very entertaining. Rut behavior is the same no matter where you find deer.

All those trail cams my son and buddies are putting up capturing night shots of deer while we sleep. Someone tell me: can we roast those deer pictures on the grill? Can we grind some Bambi-burger from those pictures?

Having had a major snowfall this past week,10/12 inches, the deer can't forage on the ground so they have, as usual, gone to eating certain choice tree branches. For instance they love to eat apple trees.
