I was griping about it last season, when a new crop of guys fishing the Canal at night were apparently afraid of the dark. A headlamp is a necessity, but come on, a million candlepower is overkill. With the new LED pole lights along the access roads you need a light while riding your bike on the darker nights, but the new/old trend is to bathe the fisherman down by the water with light. To check if he has a fish in the rocks?

Some guys keep their lights on the entire time they're fishing. On a busy weekend night it looks like a light-saber battle from Star Wars. Little do they realize how many fish following their lures will turn away once the light shines their way.

The dual edge sword of lights is they not only put off fish but attract fishermen.

Excellent point , Pat. Your posts inspire this nagging sense that you have fished the beach now and then. I remember occasionally foul-hooking a skate and telling Joyce don't put the flippin light on. That light could bring frickin vultures from Tanganyika. Pat Abate, you get smarter every day.

We have occasional deer in the yard. Because of my enlarged prostrate, I pee more than an excited pointer so I often put the flood lights on in the yard during the night. If/when the deer are there they just keep right on grazing on our lawn and don't even look up. Its like they don't even see the light. Weird!

In the old days the Cape was a nightmare of snoops who had the balls to shine lights all over you to investigate for bass under the buggy or look for drag marks which was evidence that you had taken fish. To me, it is none of anyone's business how you have done fishing. When you are one man fishing with a woman, and they can see that, they can get very pushy about violating your privacy. A lot of people didn't like me back then because I would not talk to them. I always made a point of remembering the surfmen who felt they had a right to investigate me; I had a right to snub them. A lot of things about the Cape were downright unpleasant.
