Shorten a Surf Rod?

This may be a strange idea, but since I got a new surf rod this year I have an old Surf rod that I ont use anymore and was curious if I could cut it down and make a Boat pole out of it (5.5-6.5ft). It is a 9ft 2 piece now, and I would like to make it around 6 depending on how the guides layout. I was thinking I could just epoxy the two pieces together to make it a one piece and add a new tip...can this be done?

The rod did not cost much and is not used, so there is nothing to loose here...just want your thoughts on how to and useability of the road afterwards.

Thanks

Second thought as I sit here...maybe I could shorten it from the botton, keeping my guides in place...just take of the handle, and cut from the bottom? Any thoughts?

make sure you cut the blank with something that will heat the fibers, such as a dremel

for why do you want to heat the "fibers"?
